People ask “Are we better off now than we were 4 years ago?” Back then the Republican Bush administration had given us a storybook life, and we want it back.
There was the Great Recession, which threatened to become a major Depression, thanks to the conservative notion that all regulation, financial regulation of the banking industry for instance, is bad. We enjoyed watching not one, but two wars being covered on TV news. Lots of explosions, dead people of many countries, trillions of dollars spent. And best of all, we didn’t have to pay enough taxes to cover the budget, because the Republicans told us that “Deficits don’t matter.” The National Debt doubled during the 8 years of the Bush administration and resolving the wars they started ensured that we would have to spend trillions more on them after they left office.
That’s why so many people these days are nostalgic for the Bush administration. All I hear these days are people on the street pleading for a return to the life we had during the Bush years.
Since then, President Obama hasn’t lived up to unrealistic expectations. He’s been in office almost 4 years and he still hasn’t completely fixed the damage created by the Republican Bush administration! He’s just not fixing it fast enough. Oh sure, he prevented economic disaster and big deal, he saved the financial and auto industry. Bla bla bla.
But he’s spending his time on nonsense like trying to get Congress to collect enough taxes to pay for the budget and lower the National Debt! That’s not the conservative way! He’s trying to set social services at a reasonable rate and at the same time lower military spending to a level that someone who is not a paranoid schizophrenic can accept. What’s with that? And all that time and money wasted on schools, fixing a crumbling infrastructure, pushing for energy independence, and providing incentives for small businesses to thrive and grow… What is he, nuts? It’s every man for himself in this country. We don’t help nobody with nothin’. This is America for heaven’s sakes!
All that reasonableness and down-to-earth thinking just isn’t as exciting as creating more damage. That’s why we need another Republican president, someone who repeats words like “lower taxes”, “less government”. I miss phrases that demean other countries, like “freedom fries”. Let’s have some more of that “shock and awe” as the US bombs and kills people in some small country, and lots more military spending again, deficit be damned! Can anyone say “freedoms”? Order the little yellow magnetic ribbons to stick on your SUVs!
If President Obama can’t fix the Republican damage fast enough, we’ll just have to replace him with a Republican president who will create more damage!
